Whats App

WhatsApp is a messaging app for mobile devices that permits you to message across different platforms using your mobile phones and tablets without the cost of SMS charges. If you use iPhone, Blackberry, Android platform, Windows phone and/or Nokia, you can download the app and message each other until your heart’s content.
WhatsApp lets you use the same data plan you are using for email and web browsing, so there’s no additional cost to message and stay in touch with your family and friends. With this app you can create groups for more specific messaging, and you can send them unlimited texts, images, videos and audio messages across multiple media.
Applying WhatsApp to your web browser is really easy. You just open your browser to the WhatsApp website and look for the web browser button. Click on the button and it opens to a QR code that lets you synchronize your phone with the web browser on your computer. Use your phone’s camera to take a picture of or scan the QR code and you are ready to go.
The web client is really an extension of your phone; it mirrors conversations and text messages from your mobile phone or device, but the original messages remain on your phone. You must be connected to the internet in order for the connection to work, and you must have downloaded the latest version of the WhatsApp app. Again, iOS users must wait to take advantage of this web application.
WhatsApp’s latest step is likely to make the app more attractive to an already growing group of users. According to a WhatsApp website blog, the app is already used by over half a billion people worldwide and growing. A recent article in the Wall Street Journal estimated that there are over 700 million WhatsApp users. It seems as more people with mobile devices find out that it is now possible to message with family, friends and, perhaps, co-workers across platforms without having to pay SMS charges, usage should continue to grow.
Some might question the necessity of using the app on a computer, but as the Wall Street Journal noted, there are some advantages to users of having it available. For one thing, it is quicker to use the keyboard on the computer than to use the small one on your phone. Even though some people are lightning fast when texting on their phones, a computer keyboard is still faster.
Another advantage is access to a larger number of images, photos, videos and other stored messages on your computer. You can store a lot more stuff on your computer than you can on your phone, so you can broaden what’s available for use in messaging other people. Also, if you are on your computer a lot, either at work or at home, having the messages coming into your computer makes them immediately available for you to view and respond to quickly. This could be important when time is a critical factor in answering a message.

Simply put, WhatsApp has made it easier for you to message your family, friends and acquaintances, and broadened the potential message content available for you to use. It is another step in connecting you with the world and breaking down barriers to understanding who we are.
